Medioevo in festa
It takes place every year from 12 to 15 August. It is the re-enactment of the most significant and decisive historical event for Roccantica's history in 1059. In that year Pope Niccolò II pursued by the troops of the Crescenti allies of his antagonist BENEDICT X, took refuge in the rocha de antiquo (Roccantica ). Here he was fiercely defended by the roccoli, until the arrival of the troops of ROBERTO D'ALTAVILLA who fought their enemies. In spite of the heroic defense, the Rocca was now burning down. Only 12 people survived. The Pope, remembering the value of the Roccoli, the Rock and its territory, infused the 12 survivors with a papal bubble dating from April 18, 1060. Favored by the typically medieval structure of the country, the scenography of that time was rebuilt through costumes, music, courtesy, games, portals, towers, weapons, flags torches and torches. The atmosphere was animated with groups formed mainly by young people, drummers, lightblinds, bandwriters, dancers, musicians, wild boar hunters and firefighters. The story of Roccantica, a name that already evokes ancient events, has suggested a medieval festival, included in the many manifestations of Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany, wanted to make an original contribution to the recollections of the Middle Ages, also with the involvement of all the population of Roccantica. The narrative is performed in vintage language and with a soundtrack of medieval music choices for the occasion, while specially designed towers are special effects (smoke, flames, lightning and noises). The procession consists of more than 500 costumers divided by groups (armies, knights, notables, people, etc.). Guided tours are held at all places with significant works of art and history.
